Zakharov Serhii

Zakharov Serhii (born 1967) Famous ukrainian artist, performer. Born in Donetsk. In 2014 he helped create the “Myrzilka Art Group” in Donetsk. He placed mocking and satirical works of art in the streets of the occupied city, aimed at the militants of the “DPR”. In the end, through this activity, he found himself in the camps, where he went through tortures, beatings, and mock shootings. The events of those days are depicted in his graphic novel “Dira” where each illustration is a memory of real events. Zakharov's graphic works, which were included in the comic book, caused a massive public outcry at many art exhibitions in Ukraine and Europe. Now Zakharov Serhii lives and works in Kyiv and participates in rehabilitation projects for former prisoners, captives and the military. In 2016 he co-organized the art group “UKRMAKROVSESVIT”. He worked with the Donetsk Art Foundation IZOLYATSIA, which focuses on preserving the memory of Donbas and its reintegration into Ukraine, and the Platform for cultural initiatives in Kyiv. He ran for mayor of Mariupol and was registered as one of the candidates during the elections in January and October 2015. This was an art project based on the ideas of the American artist Allan Capron. Conducts a large number of presentations and lectures on the role of art in nonviolent resistance. He is a consul (in exile) of the art association “Uzhupis” (Lithuania). Zakharov's artworks are presented in many Ukrainian and European museums, and he also holds solo exhibitions. In 2022 the painting "Air raid siren" (2022) was sold at a charity auction, organized by the Dukat Auction House and the Serhiy Prytula Foundation.
