The UPA bophons performed a propaganda function and were used as money in settlements with the population that supported the actions of the insurgents. Most bofons are found in hiding places and caches left by the insurgents in the 1950s. Even in difficult times, Ukrainians have always tried to celebrate Easter. The 1940s and 1950s were no exception. When they met, UPA and OUN soldiers greeted each other with the following words: "Christ is risen. Ukraine will rise". The card depicts the Trident, the national emblem of Ukraine. Most of these holiday cards were printed abroad. The OUN(b) leadership was involved in their production. The Ukrainian Self-Determined Union State (USSU) was a Ukrainian state that controlled the territories of mostly western Ukraine in 1941-1949. It is also the concept of this state for which the OUN-UPA fought.
